Alliance Shippers Inc. Once Again Recognized as Green Supply Chain Partner

Englewood Cliffs, NJ — Alliance Shippers Inc., a leading provider of global logistics services,is pleased to announce that it has been named a 2019 Top Green Provider by Food Logistics. Alliance Shippers Inc. has received this honor yearly since 2016.

Food Logistics’ annual Top Green Providers recognizes companies whose products, services, or exemplary leadership enhances sustainability within the food and beverage industry. Each year, the criteria for earning a spot on the list become more stringent for applicants. For example, the editorial staff evaluates a company’s participation in such programs as the EPA’s SmartWay and other recognized sustainability programs; facilities that are LEED-certified, and/or feature solar panels, LED lighting and other energy saving installations and retrofits that produce measurable reductions in GHG emissions, to name a few.

“Our Top Green Providers demonstrate leadership in sustainability throughout the global food supply chain, from better management of natural resources to technology applications and operational improvements that reduce food waste from the farm to the retailer to the end consumer,” notes Lara L. Sowinski, Editorial Director. “Environmental stewardship is a defining feature for these companies, as is their determination to continually raise the sustainability bar year after year.”

“Implementing smart, sustainable practices that reduce our carbon footprint is a philosophy built into the very core of our business,” said Larry Henry, VP of Logistics & Special Projects. “This honor is a testament to that sustainable mindset.”

Alliance Shippers Recertifies as a SmartWay Transport Partner

Englewood Cliffs, NJ — Alliance Shippers Inc., a leading provider of global logistics services, is pleased to announce that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has renewed its SmartWay Transport Partner certification. The initiative, a collaboration between EPA and industry, encourages the movement of freight in the cleanest and most energy-efficient ways possible.

Alliance Shippers’ fleet of over 2,100 CARB compliant 53’ refrigerated trailers is one notable example of these efforts. Wireless remote control enables temperature adjustment and the ability to turn units on or off at any time, and solar panels on the trailer rooftops reduce dependency on battery power.

Beyond that, the decision to utilize railroad intermodal services for the line-haul segment results in a reduced carbon footprint compared to traditional movement by highway. Alliance also makes a point of prioritizing SmartWay certified carriers for the originating and final mile transport of customer cargo.

A program participant since 2005, Alliance was first certified the following year. Since then, the company has consistently maintained this credential. In 2017, EPA named Alliance an excellence award winner—a distinction received by just 62 of the 3,600 total partners.

“SmartWay offers a path toward a more sustainable business environment,” said Larry Henry, VP of Logistics & Special Projects. “We are proud to be a long-time partner of this initiative and honored to be among the 1 to 2 percent of companies leading the way in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency.”

As a SmartWay Partner, Alliance Shippers has contributed to the collective savings of nearly $30 billion in fuel costs as well as the avoidance of over 100 million metric tons of air pollutant emissions. SmartWay partners have also saved more than 215 million barrels of oil—the equivalent of eliminating annual electricity use in over 14 million homes.

Alliance International Secures Latest ISO 9001 Certification

Englewood Cliffs, NJ — Alliance Shippers Inc., a leading provider of global logistics services, is pleased to announce that company division Alliance International has transitioned to the latest ISO 9001 standard.

The certification ensures that Alliance International consistently provides high-quality services that meet both customer and regulatory requirements, and its importance was realized early on.

In 1999, Ronald Lefcourt, co-founder and former president of Alliance Shippers Inc., set out to certify Alliance International — an admirable goal given the intricacies of international transportation. By 2000, the company became fully certified within the ISO 9000 family of standards.

Most recently, Alliance International made the transition to the latest iteration of the standard on Aug. 21, 2018, with a scope of registration that includes “Customhouse Brokerage and Freight Forwarder.”

“We are pleased to have kept up with our certifications over these past 18 years
and now stand as a fully-certified ISO 9001:2015 company,” said Frank De La Torre, Executive Vice President of Alliance International. “With this certification, not only does Alliance International hold processes and measurable standards for everything we do,” he explained, “but we’ve also fully incorporated this into our company culture to improve the well-being of our vendors and employees alike.”

Whereas previous ISO 9001 standards focused more on internal procedures that ensure consistency and quality, the new standard looks at the big picture and places emphasis on process and risk-based thinking. It also provides administrators with an efficient management system.

Alliance International expects to continue to follow many of its previously established procedures, but company leaders anticipate that the latest standard will help and support staff while improving customer satisfaction and relationships.

“We are proud of this accomplishment, honored to stand with our customers that share in this ISO certification, and eager to continue to build upon the synergies we’ve achieved together,” De La Torre added. “We also offer this same level of service to companies that have not yet ventured as far into this global initiative.”
