Alliance Shippers Equips Latest Intermodal Fleet with Wireless Monitoring System Alliance Shippers, Inc., one of North America’s largest independently-owned providers of global logistics and transportation services, is pleased to announce the addition of a wireless monitoring system to its fleet of refrigerated intermodal trailers. Known as “ReeferTrak Commander,” this satellite-based management solution will give Alliance Shippers full two-way command and control authority over reefer assets and loads while in transit. ReeferTrak Commander already is incorporated in 100 of Alliance Shippers’ refrigerated intermodal trailers. By the end of August, 500 reefers will feature this new technology. The total size of Alliance Shippers’ refrigerated fleet is 1,360 units. “The ReeferTrak system will give Alliance Shippers the ability to track, monitor, and control their refrigerated trailer fleet and cargo throughout North America,” said Larry Henry, Vice President, Logistics, Alliance Shippers. “ReeferTrak will enable Alliance Shippers to increase fleet visibility and improve operational efficiencies to ensure that refrigerated trailers reach their destination with their perishable or frozen loads maintained at the proper temperature. This is an exciting advancement for Alliance Shippers, and we are pleased to offer this new service to our customers.” ReeferTrak Commander was created by StarTrak LLC, a leading provider of advanced wireless asset management systems for monitoring and control of cold chain assets for the freight transportation industries. The added measure of security provided by the StarTrak system gives customers extra assurance that accurate temperatures are maintained throughout the transportation process. “ReeferTrak provides the ability for us to react more quickly than ever before should a problem occur while the trailers are in transport,” Henry said. “By setting alarm points in the software, Alliance will be notified instantly if any operational or temperature-related issues occur during transit. Additionally, the temperature set-point cannot be changed or the unit shut down without our knowledge.” Tom Robinson, StarTrak’s Senior Vice President and General Manager, said his company is pleased to welcome Alliance Shippers to its growing base of customers. “ReeferTrak will do far more than just track and monitor Alliance’s trailers. We add value by giving Alliance practical and actionable information to help them more efficiently manage their operations,” Robinson said. “Given the nature of transporting frozen and perishable loads via rail, it is easy to see why a product such as ReeferTrak could deliver a rapid return on investment for refrigerated intermodal service providers. We expect that Alliance will experience these same high-quality results.” The ReeferTrak Commander solution uses satellite-based communications and services to provide in-transit asset visibility throughout North America. Because it uses very low power, the ReeferTrak system is always available to transmit messages and receive remote polls and commands. Should a problem occur while a refrigerated trailer is in transit, the StarTrak network will automatically notify Alliance Shippers’ dispatchers of the event within minutes. ReeferTrak Commander also allows Alliance to instantly access real-time information about the operational state and condition of a reefer unit so that the appropriate corrective action can be taken. Return to Top Alliance Shippers Adds to its Fleet of Refrigerated Units for Delivery of Perishable Goods When it comes to shipping temperature-sensitive products throughout the United States and Canada, Alliance Shippers, Inc., maintains one of the newest and most advanced lines of refrigerated shipping trailers in the industry. Customers may choose between reefers that are 48 feet and 53 feet in length, depending on the needs of the operation, and be assured that our well-maintained equipment will provide the highest quality of performance. Our entire fleet of trailers is relatively new, with 270 of our 795 reefers acquired in the past year. As a demonstration of our commitment to growing our intermodal protective service business, Alliance Shippers will add 300 brand-new, 53-foot refrigerated trailers to the fleet this year, with plans to bring these units into service in the fourth quarter of 2003. This will bring our fleet size to just under 1,100 units.  “The superior refrigeration technology employed by our intermodal trailers provides tighter temperature control than most refrigerated units, allowing for enhanced protection of our customers’ products.
